INTRODUCTION:

The Eastern Cape's Mediterranean weather allows visitors to the coastal regions to enjoy countless days in the sun, with the breeze soon becoming one's friend in temperatures, as high as 35 degrees celsius.

Algoa Bay, coastal region of Nelson Mandela Bay, boasts 40 km of magnificent beaches. With its perfect combination of warm water, calm sea and fair breezes, it is one of the best sailing venues in the world and a mecca for all beach and water sport enthusiasts. Most of Nelson Mandela Bay and Buffalo City's beaches are patrolled by fully trained professional lifeguards during the summer season.

A variety of beach areas exist which can be visited by sunbathers or swimmers. Apart from offering good swimming opportunities, the Eastern Cape region has some fine sand dunes, attractive picnic spots, large children's' playgrounds and ample parking areas. Windsurfing, diving, swimming, sailing, fishing and angling are popular and safe recreational activities on the coastline.  Nelson Mandela Bay and Buffalo City offer some of best boardsailing conditions in the world. The area is also excellent for river sailing, as well as top quality wave riding and jumping, recommended for experts only! The diving sites in the Eastern Cape are packed with reefs, shipwrecks, fish and colourful soft coral species.
