Nelson Mandela Bay Tourism makes waves at Meetings Africa 2010

Nelson Mandela Bay Tourism (NMBT) recently attended the Meetings Africa business tourism exhibition, which took place in Johannesburg, and walked away with the award for the best large stand. Meetings Africa takes place annually and presents exhibiters from the meeting, incentives and events industries the opportunity to showcase products and services. NMBT’s objective for the exhibition was to sell Nelson Mandela Bay as a preferred conferencing destination as well as creating awareness about the Bay’s host city status. NMBT had 40 buyers from across the globe with whom they are partnering to build foreign relations. The meetings included meetings with tourism managers of SA Tourism who manage the Australian, United Kingdom, French and New York conferencing markets. The organization of site inspection and familiarization trips is already taking place.

“We want to build the city through attracting business tourism, but we are faced with the challenge that people are not familiar with the destination, which is why we deemed it important for our stand to have graphics that depict our product offering. We were very surprised and honoured to have won the award for the best large stand and believe that the stand played a huge role in getting buyers interested in Nelson Mandela Bay” said Fezekile Tshiwula, CEO of NMBT.

“Over and above this, the event provided us with the opportunity to network with other Destination Marketing organizations as well as Convention Bureaus” he added.
