NMBT and the National Lottery invest in educating product owners
Date: 3 March 2010
Nelson Mandela Bay Tourism together with the Municipality’s Department of Economic Development and Recreational Services: Tourism is taking the opportunity given to them by the National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund (NLDTF) by utilising a portion of the R859 500 awarded to them for greening and sustainable tourism, to educate tourism product owners on topics such as sustainable tourism and fair-trade, in preparation of the 2010 FIFA World Cup™, through workshops.
The workshops will run over two days and will take place in 4 sessions from 3 March 2010 to 27 May 2010. The aim of this NLDTF-funded project is to ensure that all tourism product owners are educated on how people, their communities, the environment and the economy should work together to achieve sustainability in the sector. In terms of fair-trade in tourism, workshop attendees can expect to hear from tourism experts such as Paul Miedema from Calabash Tours.
“We want to educate all our members on various aspects of the industry especially those who are not in the position to afford consultants. We needed funding to enable this and that is where the NLDTF has helped make the objective a reality. We would not have been able to achieve this without the support of the National Lottery funding” said Fezekile Tshiwula, CEO of NMBT.
